ClientEarth USA is an environmental non-profit staffed by a team of expert litigators who are dedicated to changing the environmentally destructive practices of America’s biggest companies to ensure a future with clean air, clean water and a safe climate for all.

We use the law to hold reckless corporations accountable for the harm they cause to people, wildlife, and the planet. We do that by taking the biggest polluters and their financial enablers to court and exposing their climate impact to the public.

Our history

ClientEarth USA is an independent non-profit organization that works in strategic partnership with ClientEarth Group, the UK-headquartered international group of entities, founded in 2007.

ClientEarth’s founder, James Thornton, is a former Wall Street lawyer who won over 80 cases to force the Reagan Administration to clean up polluted water. Then he moved to London, and ClientEarth was born.
