ClientEarth and NRDC Letter to MUFG on Legal, Financial, and Reputational Risks of Advising the Saguaro Energia LNG Project

ClientEarth and NRDC’s joint letter raises serious concerns about MUFG’s role as a financial advisor to Mexico Pacific on the proposed Saguaro Energia Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in the ecologically sensitive Gulf of California. The letter warns that MUFG’s involvement may breach its environmental and human rights policies, contravene international standards including the Equator Principles, and expose the bank to mounting legal and reputational risks—including potential greenwashing claims—due to the project’s likelihood of severe impacts on biodiversity, human rights, and the climate.
