My name is Wendie Malick. You may know me from your TV and movie screens, but I am also a ClientEarth supporter and lifelong environmentalist. Long before I even knew what that term meant, I was drawn to nature. As a young girl, I felt connected to the Carolinian forest that my mother called ‘a cathedral of trees.’ Even throughout the 17 years I lived in New York City, I found myself gravitating towards parks and rivers where I could be surrounded by wildlife and trees.
Our planet is facing a serious threat. Corporate polluters are putting their profits before the health of our families, our climate and the wildlife that makes the Earth so wondrous.
We all share this planet. Just because a corporation has money doesn’t mean they have the right to harm the planet for the rest of us. We have laws in place for just this purpose—and it is critical that they are enforced properly.
Take zombie wells, for example. There are over 2 million abandoned oil and gas wells plaguing America right now. They earned their name because they go right on spewing methane and other dangerous pollutants into our environment, driving climate change and threatening the health of millions of people that live near them. This is exactly the kind of abuse that needs to stop immediately!

ClientEarth is fighting powerful oil and gas companies that are responsible for these zombie wells, forcing them to finally clean up their mess. Although Big Oil may work hard to avoid the expensive costs of the legally required clean-up, ClientEarth’s lawyers work even harder to hold them accountable for their climate-harming practices.
Like many others, I am passionate about climate change and nature, but haven’t always known the right mechanism for action. That changed, though, when I met ClientEarth’s founder, James Thornton. I was inspired by his vision to go right to the source and hold corporations like these fossil fuel polluters accountable for their actions.
This approach keeps corporations honest. If they aren’t living up to the promises made to citizens and shareholders, ClientEarth will take action and make sure they’re playing by the rules.
I knew I wanted to hitch my wagon to the most impactful environmental organization I could find—and ClientEarth’s unique efforts made me feel confident that they were that group.
