Hana specializes in securities law, employee benefits law and financial regulation, with a focus on climate risk, the energy sector, and the role of financial institutions. Hana also supports ClientEarth's climate and energy initiatives in Asia, with a focus on the financial sector in Japan.
Hana has over 15 years of experience in corporate accountability, with a focus on climate, biodiversity and human rights. Before joining ClientEarth, she served as a Senior Attorney at the Center for International Environmental Law, leading efforts on pension funds and the regulation of climate-related financial risk. Hana's diverse experience also includes roles as a Senior Finance Campaigner at Rainforest Action Network; Senior Policy Advisor at Global Witness, where she led international efforts to stop the illegal timber trade into Japan; and Policy Aide to members of the Japanese Parliament, where she supported Japan’s ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Hana has separately provided legal and policy support to the Special Court for Sierra Leone and the US Environmental Protection Agency. Hana has been recognized by the Nikkei news agency as a top influencer in Japan on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues. As a volunteer, Hana founded and chaired the Zero Waste Committee at the Sierra Club DC Chapter and was recognized as an environmental leader by the DC Environmental Network.
Fluent in English and Japanese, Hana holds a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University; a Juris Doctor from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University (Haub Law), specializing in Environmental Law and International Law; a research certificate from the University of Tokyo Graduate School for Law and Politics; and a LLM from Georgetown Law Center, specializing in Securities Law. Hana is a member of the state bars of New York and Washington DC. Hana concurrently serves as a Board Member of Rainforest Action Network and Advisory Board Member of the Sustainable Business Law Hub at Haub Law. Hana is deeply committed to empowering the next generation and has previously served as Professorial Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University School of Law, on the subject of Environmental Justice.
